7D BIM

7D BIM (Building Information Modeling) is an extension of 6D BIM that includes an additional dimension of data related to the building's operations and performance. The "7D" refers to the seven dimensions of information that are included in the model:

  1. 3D geometry: This dimension includes the physical model of the building and its components, such as walls, floors, doors, and windows.

  2. Time: This dimension includes the scheduling of construction activities and the timeline for completing the project.

  3. Cost: This dimension includes the estimated cost of each component of the project and the overall cost of the project.

  4. Sustainability: This dimension includes data related to the environmental impact of the project, such as energy consumption and carbon emissions.

  5. Facilities Management: This dimension includes information related to the maintenance, operation, and management of the building, such as the equipment and materials used in the building.

  6. Lifecycle: This dimension includes information related to the building's lifespan, such as how long it is expected to last, when it will need maintenance or repairs, and when it will need to be replaced.

  7. Operations and Performance: This dimension includes data related to the building's ongoing performance, such as energy usage, maintenance needs, and occupancy patterns.

  8. The main benefit of 7D BIM is that it provides a comprehensive view of the building project from start to finish, including its expected lifecycle and ongoing performance. This allows project managers, architects, engineers, and contractors to make more informed decisions about the project's design, construction, ongoing maintenance, and operation. It also helps stakeholders optimize the building's performance over its lifetime, reduce its environmental impact, and improve its overall sustainability.
